Jolie's album is going to be out on Oct 7th...
Tracklisting for the Living and the Dead:
1. Mexico City
2. Corrido Por Buddy
3. Palmyra
4. You Painted Yourself In
5. Fox In Its Hole
6. Your Big Hands
7. Sweet Loving Man
8. Love Henry
9. The Future
10. Enjoy Yourself
I love "The Future". I'm kinda glad the other two songs from her Daytrotter Sessions weren't included (Bellingham and Honey Girl), I wasn't so keen on them. "Love Henry" I know via Ox; it's a Bob Dylan I think.

I can't help but think "You Painted Yourself In" is the BGTs' "A Little Blues" done Jolie stylee. I keep hearing the chorus of A Little Blues in my head as I'm listening to it! _________________ ...pretty little disappointments all in a row...

A good spot there,Steph.
Do you think Jolie listens to old stuff like the Tans ?
This is the first Jolie album where i have constantly been thinking "what does that sound like ?".
Previously, her musical references were too ancient for youngsters like you and me to pick up on
(Blind Willie Lemon Bucket etc..), but here she`s sampling newer material - what she calls "rock`n`roll" |

I think this "rock and roll" is a good direction for Jolie. It's definitely a far cry from the Catalpa days, but not in a bad way. It feels like a natural progression if you listen to all four studio albums in succession. It's a really solid album, I like it!
I would assume that she does listen to the Tanyas from time to time, even if only through her friendship with them. She appeared on that album, so she must know the songs at least a wee bit. Maybe this subconsciously influenced the melody of that song? _________________ ...pretty little disappointments all in a row...
